My favorite rock band is Simple Plan. They are a Canadian rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec, in 1999. The band’s lineup consists of lead vocalist Pierre Bouvier, lead guitarist Jeff Stinco, bass guitarist Sebastien Lefebvre, and drummer Chuck Comeau. In 1993, Bouvier and Comeau were in a band called Reset. Comeau left the band to attend college. In 1999, he met high school friends Stinco and Lefebvre who were in their own bands. The four of them combined to form Simple Plan. The origin of the name “Simple Plan” is unclear, as each member has given various responses. It is speculated that the name is derived from the 1998 film called Simple Plan.
About the band
Their primary genres are pop, pop punk, pop rock, and alternative rock. The band has released six studio albums, one EP, and two live albums. Additionally, they have performed at the Vans Warped Tour for multiple years, the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremony, The X Factor Australia, and various cities in five out of the seven continents. They have also appeared in the film New York Minute. Furthermore, they performed the theme music for an episode of What’s New, Scooby-Doo? This is what they are best known for, and it’s played at most shows.
The members created an organization called the Simple Plan Foundation, which emphasizes on common teen problems such as suicide, poverty, and drug addiction. From the founding date in 2005, the foundation has raised over $100,000. Their foundation has benefitted many causes such as a donation of $10,000 after a 2011 earthquake in Japan. They have also raised awareness for cancer survivors, including Bouvier’s brother’s struggle with cancer by releasing a special single on iTunes called “Save You” to benefit the foundation.
Awards and Nominations
Simple Plan has been nominated for several awards. Their award winnings include a 2002 CASBY Award, 2012 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award, 2006 Juno Fan Choice Award, MuchMusic Video Award x6, 2012 NRJ Music Award, and a 2005 Teen Choice Award. Despite their award-winning success, they strive to create music that is meaningful for fans. The band has had the tremendous honor to perform in several nationwide and world-wide festivals including the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival at the Orlando, Florida amusement park and the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada!
Fanbase and Concerts
Their concert traditions are unique in terms of colorful lighting, beach ball tosses, and much more! The drummer has his own tradition, which is a stage dive and crowd surf throughout the audience. They are very engaging with their fanbase and do everything they can to create an enjoyable and fun-filled experience. Their VIP meet & greets are no different. They consist of a soundcheck where the attendees get to watch their soundcheck and hear a private concert consisting of three to four songs. Afterwards, they’ll come down off-stage and take a group photo, as well as photos with each person and sign any memorabilia you’d like!
Personal Experience
After listening to their music for over a year and following them on social media, I was finally able to see them in concert for the first time at the Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta! Additionally, as a gift from my parents for completing a successful freshman year at college, my parents purchased me a concert ticket, as well as a VIP meet & greet experience!
In May of last year before I met the band, I wrote the lead vocalist a letter expressing my appreciation for him and his band. I left my Instagram handle at the bottom. Little did I know, he wrote me a message in return! Occasionally, I will shoot him a message or question that will sometimes get a response! To say the least, he’s given me great advice. Him and I have remained long-distance friends to this day. But overall, Simple Plan has always been one of my favorite musical groups, and I hope they continue to build on their success and release impactful music.
